THE LOVERS OF NOTHING

Out Now on Exotic Fever Records
Party Animal Control [CD / Digital / Sream]

The Sound
Post-Hardcore rrots bearing new fruit
The latest addition to the EXOTIC FEVER RECORDS roster, Philadelphia’s The Lovers of Nothing deliver melodic post-hardcore in the mid-90s vein that takes on heavy ideas but is also a good hang.Melding the angularity and artfulness exemplified by Dischord Records legends like Fugazi, the frenetic heft of At The Drive-In, and the sinewy power of Jawbox, The Lovers of Nothing forge a singular sound, at once familiar and unique.Infectious lead guitar lines against thick-but-nimble rhythm guitars complement articulate bass and drums that stand out without standing in the way. These sturdy post-hardcore roots coupled with cinematic lyrics that deftly wield wit and raw honesty help differentiate The Lovers of Nothing from the crop of great bands active in the genre right now.

The Album Aesthetic
For the multitudes you contain
An eclectic but cohesive work, Party Animal Control invites you in and gains your trust with anthemic hooks, memorable leads, and animating rhythms. Visceral, melodic vocals with discerning use of harmonies bring into relief themes that dig deep without leaning on overwrought poetics, cliches or derivative vocal affectations. The words hold up a mirror and make you feel flawed but in good company. There’s a true tale of the power of science to save or slay us in album-operner Ex-Cyborg. Different Dragons calls out the pious hypocrisy of blind belief while turning a blind eye to abominations. On the other hand, the record is self-aware and never takes itself too seriously. Total Party House lives up to its name, grabbing for faded glory while protecting the new carpets. Waving Neighbors smiles with gritted teeth, lurching along the sidewalk with voyeuristic suburban snideness. The Punchable Faces careens through the bottlerocket career of a hardcore band too hardcore to hold it together.
" Let those feet drag and the lag behind the whole pack. From here the stabbing is easy. It's all backs.-- Inaction Figures
The Musician
"I make music just for me, just for you."

Songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Joel Moffatt makes music that he’d want to hear on repeat. Having cut his teeth in the basements, Legion Halls, and skateparks of the area’s ‘90s hardcore scene, he embraces the perfectly imperfect, uninterested in work that suffers from digital over-production or sleight-of-sound.
